Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy
1. General Principles
Revista Científica del Amazonas acknowledges the growing impact of artificial intelligence (AI) tools on the production and review of academic texts. However, the journal emphasizes the importance of responsible authorship, academic integrity, and transparency in the use of these technologies.
This policy establishes guidelines for the use of AI in content generation, manuscript writing, and the editorial process, ensuring compliance with ethical standards in scientific publishing.
2. Use of AI in Manuscript Writing
Authors may use AI tools (such as writing assistants, grammar checkers, and research support software) provided that their use is supplementary and does not replace the researcher’s creativity, critical analysis, or originality.
The use of generative AI to produce the full or substantial content of a scientific article—including article writing, data interpretation, or hypothesis formulation—is not permitted.
Transparency:
If AI is used in manuscript preparation, authors must explicitly declare it in a section of the manuscript, specifying the tool and its purpose. Example declaration:
“In the preparation of this manuscript, [name of AI tool] was used for [specific tasks, such as grammar correction or idea generation]. However, all content, analyses, and conclusions are the sole responsibility of the authors.”
3. Use of AI in Peer Review
Reviewers and editors may use AI tools to support plagiarism detection, style analysis, and reference verification, but the critical evaluation of articles must be conducted by human experts.
The use of AI to generate peer review reports is not permitted. Reviewers must ensure that their comments reflect an original and well-founded analysis.
4. Use of AI in Image and Graphic Generation
AI may be used to generate supplementary images, graphs, and data visualizations, provided that:
- Images are not manipulated in a misleading way.
- The use of AI in visual production is clearly declared.
- The originality and accuracy of graphical representations are ensured.
5. Responsibility and Authorship
AI tools cannot be listed as authors of a manuscript. Authorship in Revista Científica del Amazonas must correspond to human researchers who have made significant intellectual contributions.
Authors assume full responsibility for AI-assisted content, including any errors, biases, or misinterpretations.
In cases of misuse of AI—such as unsupervised text generation or data manipulation—the journal may reject the manuscript or take disciplinary measures in accordance with its editorial ethics policy.
6. Final Considerations
Revista Científica del Amazonas reserves the right to update this policy as AI technologies and their implications in academic publishing evolve.
Authors and reviewers are encouraged to stay informed about the ethical use of AI in scientific research, following guidelines from organizations such as COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), EASE (European Association of Science Editors) and Elsevier.
